California Academy of Mathematics and Science (CAMS)
The California Academy of Mathematics and Science is a high school located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. Some of these students concurrently take regular college courses for college credit. When this happens they are counted in the campus enrollment and are included in the demographics breakdowns, but are listed as "CAMS in College" on reports by class level.
Undergraduates are considered to be full-time students when they are enrolled in 12 units or more during any semester, however, graduation in four years time requires completion of approximately 16 units each semester. Graduate and Post-Baccalaureate students are considered to be full-time students when they are enrolled in at least nine units of graduate program courses each semester.
Full-Time Equivalent Students (FTES)
Full-Time Equivalent Students (FTES) is different from the number of students attending the university who are enrolled "full-time". Historically, FTES has been a measurement of enrollment derived by dividing total student credit units for a term by 15, both for the undergraduate and graduate level. Since Fall 2006, a new re-benched FTES calculation specifies that graduate student units get divided by 12 instead of 15.
There are two methods used to calculate FTES (Taken and Taught), each producing entirely different results. For budget and resource purposes, the calculation for FTES is always done using course enrollments (FTES Taught). For instance, FTES for a particular department is based on all units taken in all courses offered by the department. This is the most commonly used method.
However, sometimes, such as reporting for accreditation or grant acquisition purposes, an FTES calculation may be based on student characteristics (FTES Taken). For instance, a department may want to know the FTES that students with a major in the department contribute to the university, regardless of which departments the courses are in. Therefore, an analysis of FTES (Taught) of undergraduate versus graduate courses is very different from an analysis of FTES (Taken) contributed by undergraduates versus graduate students. This is due to the fact that many graduate students also enroll in undergraduate courses.
