Set somewhere in Italy in the 17th Century, butremarkably close to home, The Revenger's Tragedy is saturated with devious characters and plots of revenge.  Vindice, the central character, is bent upon revenge on the Duke, whose wife is unfaithful, and whose sons plot against each other.  All of the court is deceived and deceiving, and this rotten core only decays further as the play goes on, a grim reminder that "He who plans revenge should dig two graves."
