Zach
Jones (Sr.) posted a team-low 77 over the third and final
round of the 2007 CCAA Golf Championships, finishing with a total
score of 224 and in 25th place to lead the CSUDH quintet at the
CCAA Championships. For the tournament, Jones was the lone Toro to
shoot below par in any round, hitting a 2-under 70 in round two.

Deborah
Bowser (Sr.) turned in her best time of the season in the
200-meter dash at last week's Steve Scott Invitational, hosted by
UC Irvine. Her effort of 24.66 also was good enough for a
provisional qualifying mark.

David
Leyva (P, Jr. 5-10), starting pitcher turned left fielder, led
the Toro offense with a .400 batting in the two-game set against
Grand Canyon University. The Los Angeles native recorded a hit in
each game of the double-header while swiping a base and drawing a
walk.

Jodi
Nakawatase (5-3, 1B/P, Fr.) made four starts at 7th-ranked Cal
State Stanislaus as both a pitcher and fielder, and managed a .308
batting and .538 slugging percentage. She blasted 1 home run and
drove in 4, while scoring 2 runs herself and drawing 2 walks. In
addition, the true freshman fanned three Warrior batters in her
only start of the series.

Jerit
Coleman (5-10, Sr., OF) batted .538 with a .846 slugging
percentage and a .647 on base percentage, garnering four walks,
and a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases to help the Toros hand Cal
State L.A. its fourth overall loss and second conference loss of
the season. In the Toros lone win, the Long Beach, CA native went
2-for-3 with a walk, scored twice and drove in two runs, with both
RBIs coming on the first homerun of his Toro career, a two run
shot to left field to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the
2nd.

Katie
Jordan (5-6, Fr., UTL) was an offensive machine against UC San
Diego last weekend. The freshman enjoyed a 6-for-8 performance,
with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. In the opener, Jordan notched 3 of
the team's 7 hits, also notching 3 hits in the nightcap, adding 3
RBI and a run scored. Overall, Jordan batted .750 with a double,
boasting a slugging percentage of .875 as the Toros dropped both
games at UC San Diego.

Mateo
Marquez (6-2, Sr., OF) was an offensive thorn in the side of
the Broncos as the Toros took 3-of-4 from Cal Poly Pomona. The
Biggs, CA native batted .412 (7-for-17) in the series with seven
RBIs, hitting two long range bombs and legging out three doubles
for a slugging percentage of .941.

Grace
Fitchett (5-5, Jr., Hurdles) recorded another provisional mark
in the 100-Meter Hurdles to lead the Toros at the Pomona-Pitzer
Track & Field Invitational. Fitchett grabbed a first place
finish in the race with a time of 13.94, which was well below the
provisional mark of 14.65 and ahead of runners from Azusa Pacific,
Cal State San Marcos, Southern Utah. In fact the closest Division
II athlete checked in with a time over two seconds behind, at
16.03. The Los Angeles native also had a strong showing in the
200-meter dashing, finishing fourth with a time of 24.85.

Clay
Young (6-5, Jr. LHP) notched the Toros' lone win against UCSD
this past weekend as CSUDH survived a furious Triton rally to take
the nightcap of Saturday's twinbill by a 14-9 count. Young was
magnificent in the early going, fanning eight Tritons overall
including a string of five-consecutive to close out the 1st inning
and the entire side in the 2nd. At one point, the 6'5" lefty
retired eight-consecutive UCSD batters, eventually losing his
shutout in the 4th inning.

Jennifer
Martinez (La Habra, CA/CSULB) was instrumental as the Toros
posted a 4-3 record at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, hosted
by Cal State Stanislaus. At the plate over the weekend, Martinez
garnered team highs in hits (10), RBI (5) and batting average
amongst starters (.417). In addition, the junior transfer notched
two of the team's four wins, notching 13 strikeouts in 27.1
innings of work.

Michael
Craig (6-0, Sr., OF) flexed his muscles on the week, boasting
a slugging percentage of 1.222 and recording 11 total bases. The
senior transfer batted .444 with an on-base percentage of .500,
with Craig's best performance coming in the Toros' first ever
meeting against Pace University, going 3-for-4 with a pair of solo
homeruns.

Katie
Jordan (5-6, Fr., UTL) enjoyed a 6-for-6 performance at the
plate as the Toros swept past Division I-bound Cal State
Bakersfield Friday afternoon. On the day, Jordan was a perfect
3-for-3 in each game, adding 3 RBI and 2 runs scored in the sweep.

Despite
the Toros' rough trip to Turlock, senior second baseman, Houston
Hernandez (5-10, Sr., 2B), led the team with seven hits,
sporting a .438 batting average and scoring five runs. In 16 at
bats Hernandez native recorded eight total bases and did not
strikeout, earning two walks and being hit twice for an on base
percentage of .550.

Grace
Fitchett (5-5, Jr., Hurdles) blazed down the 100-meter hurdle
race in a time of 13.88 to provisionally qualify for the NCAA
Championships in that event, missing the automatic qualifying time
of 13.80 by just eight one hundreths of a second. Additonally. the
junior finished 7th in the 100 meter dash at the UNLV Duel Meet.

| March 11 |
David
Leyva (P, Jr. 5-10) earned the Toros' lone win against Sonoma
State this weekend in the 4-2 win to open Saturday's
double-header. The southpaw allowed just two earned runs in seven
innings, scattering four hits while fanning five for his second
win of the year.

Michelle
Medina (P, Fr. 5-4) led the Toros to their only win against
visiting Chico State this weekend, earning her first collegiate
win in the circle in her first career collegiate start. She
scattered 7 hits while allowing no earned runs as the Wildcats'
lone score in CSUDH's 9-1 win came courtesy of a Toro fielding
error.

Jonathan
Toliver (6-5, So., G) was instrumental as the Toros swept past
San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay to close the
regular season. He tallied 26 points in just 18 minutes in the
91-51 blowout win against the Gators on Friday, following that
with a 12-point effort in the win over CSUMB the next night.
Overall, "Skip" shot a sizzling 48% from the field and
45% from behind the arc, totaling 38 points, 6 assists, 1 steal
and just 1 turnover.

Brigayle
Iglehart (5-7, Jr., G) led the Toros to a 2-0 week with wins
over San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay, helping to
secure CSUDH a spot in the NCAA DII Regional tournament and give
head coach Van Girard his 250th career win. Against the Gators
Iglehart led the offense with 15 points and eight rebounds while
dishing out five assists, nailing a perfect 7-for-7 from the free
throw line. The next night the San Diego native torched the Otters
for 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the first half alone,
including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Her 22 points would be
three less than the entire Otter team in the first half. After it
was all said and done Iglehart recorded her fifth consecutive game
of 10 or more points, and finish with a double-double of 24 points
and 10 rebounds, while dishing out five assists. On the week
Iglehart averaged 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting
66.7% (14 of 21) from the field and 75.0% (3 of 4) from beyond the
arc.

Mateo
Marquez (6-2, Sr., OF) was an offensive machine last week,
hitting .500 (8-for-16), including 2 triples, a double, with 6
runs scored and 4 RBI. The senior center fielder boasted a
slugging percentage of .813, an on base percentage of .569 and
stole 3 bases as the Toros picked up their first CCAA win of the
season last Saturday.

Brigayle
Iglehart (5-7, Jr., G) led the Toros to crucial wins last week
by playing arguably her two best games of the season, considering
the "must-win" circumstances surrounding the Toros'
final four games. The junior guard averaged 19.5 points,
connecting for 53.5% of her shots, while pulling down 12 boards
and dishing 8 assists. She torched CSUSB for 21 points last
Friday, and followed that with 18 points at CPP the next night,
bringing the Toros to within two wins of the NCAA postseason.

On
the week, Scott Moore (Sr., 1B) batted .529 with nine hits
and drove in eight runners as the Toros took three out of four
from Southern Utah University. The Cal State L.A. Transfer had at
least one hit and one RBI in each of the four games, while
slugging .647 and committing no errors in 34 opportunities at
first base.

Katie
Garcia (Fr., OF) was an offensive machine as the Toros posted
a 4-2 record at the Schutt Lead Off Classic last weekend. The
freshman batted .455 (5-for-11) as she started all 6 games, with 3
runs scored, 2 doubles and an RBI. Additionally, Katie drew 6
walks, good for an on-base % of .647. She also boasted a perfect
1.000 fielding percentage, handling all 13 chances in the field,
which included 2 assists.

| February 11 |
Jeff
Phillips (Redondo Beach, CA/LA Harbor College) picked up the
first Toros' win of the season, tossing a complete-game 5-hitter
against Cal State San Marcos in the double header nightcap on
Saturday. The Redondo Beach native allowed just one earned run in
the win, fanning 4 against just one walk. He retired the side in
order twice, and faced just four batters in two other innings,
finishing the game strong by retiring the final four batters he
faced in the game. In the contest, the control specialist threw
109 total pitches, with 73 accounting for strikes (66.9% for
strikes).

Jennifer
Martinez (La Habra, CA/CSULB) led the Toros on both the
offensive and defensive ends as CSUDH took 3-of-4 from Cal State
Monterey Bay to open CCAA Conference play last weekend. In the
batter's box, Martinez went 7-for-11 (.636) with a home run, a
double, 4 RBI, 2 intentional passes and a 1.000% slugging
percentage as CSUDH went 3-1 on the week. She was even better on
the mound in tossing all 26.0 innings in the four games. On the
weekend, Martinez boasted a no-hitter, a 1.35 ERA, and a
strikeout-to-walk ratio of nearly 3:1 (14 strikeouts, 5 walks).

| February 4 |
Senior
righty Gus Hernandez (5'10", Sr., Pitcher) gave the
Toros their first strong pitching performace of the season,
limiting the high scoring Golden Eagles to just two runs and four
hits, salvaging a tie in the four-game set against CSUDH's
crosstown rival, Cal State L.A. The Lynwood native kept CSULA's
bats in check, fanning two batters in the process. In the
four-game set, CSULA scored 32 runs, but just two off Hernandez.

Sophomore
hurdles specialist Grace Fitchett (5'5", Jr.,
Hurdler) flew by the NCAA automatic qualifying time of 8.65 last
weekend in the 60-meter hurdles, blazing down the track in a time
of 8.57. With that effort, Fitchett has qualified for the NCAA
Indoor Championships, scheduled for March 9-10, in Boston,
Massachusetts.

Gabe
Bernard (6'7, Sr., F) was huge as the Toros picked up a
much-needed win last Saturday at San Francisco State. On the
night, the senior transfer collected 21 points on 6-of-9 shooting
from the field, which included a stellar 4-of-6 performance from
behind the arc and a solid 5-of-7 makes at the foul line. Bernard
also pulled down three boards, swiped two steals and garnered an
assist in boasting game-high scoring honors. On the week, Bernard
tallied 26 points and 9 rebounds as the Toros split their weekend
road trip.

Junior
Alana Bailey (Jr., 6-0, F) led the Toros to a 2-0 week,
with wins over Cal State Monterey Bay and San Francisco State.
Against the Otters, Bailey just missed a double-double with 10
points and eight rebounds in only 23 minutes on the floor. The
Altadena native also added a block and a steal while going 5-for-8
from the field. The following night against the Gators, Bailey
again was solid, going 7-for-11 from the field and 5-for-6 from
the charity stripe. Bailey would garner game-high scoring honors
with 19 points while chipping in another eight rebounds in 29
minutes of action. On the week Bailey averaged 14.5 points and
eight rebounds per game while shooting 63.2% from the field and
88.33 from the free throw line in less than 30 minutes a contest.

Jonathan
Toliver (6-5, So., G) had a solid weekend against powerhouses
Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino, tallying 28 points
on 9-of-17 shooting from the field, including 7-of-14 from 3-point
land and a perfect 3-of-3 from the charity stripe. The sophomore
also added 4 assists, 3 rebounds and a steal on the weekend.

On
the week, Brittney Blankenship (510, Jr. G) averaged
12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and shot 52.6% as the Toros split their
two games. In the win against Cal Poly Pomona, she tallied 16
points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists, including 7-for-12 from the
field in 27 minutes of action. The next night against the Coyotes,
she tallied 9 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in just 24 minutes
on the floor.

| January 14 |
Jonathan
Toliver (6-5, So., G) was key as the Toros rebounded with a
convincing win over Cal State L.A., one night after running into a
Roadrunner machine in Bakersfield. In the win against the Golden
Eagles, the sophomore guard connected for 5-of-7 shots from the
field, including 3-of-4 from long-range as he tallied 15 points in
the win. Toliver also tallied 4 boards in his 26 minutes with an
assist and a steal as CSUDH snapped a three-game conference skid,
bringing its record to 6-6 on the year

Ennisha
Kyles (5-10, So. C) had a solid week as the Toros split their
two games on the road. Against Cal State Bakersfield on Friday,
she was CSUDH's lone bright spot, nailing all 5-of-5 shots from
the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line as the Toros were upended,
and followed that performance with 8 point and 6 rebounds as CSUDH
rebounded with a win against Cal State L.A. the next night. In the
two games, Ennisha averaged 10 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist
while shooting 61.5% from the field and 100% from the charity
stripe.

Mike
Steed (G, Jr., 6-3) played a key role in last weekend's
contests, collecting 29 points on 12-of-19 shots from the field,
including 2-for-3 from behind the arc. The junior guard also
tallied 6 boards, 7 assists, 2 steals and a block.

Aujanee
Baldwin (Fr., 5-8, G) was instrumental as the Toros picked up
a key CCAA win last weekend. The 5-8 guard tallied 20 total points
on the weekend, collecting 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 blocks and an
assist. On the weekend, Baldwin shot a stellar 9-for-14 from the
field as CSUDH split its two games.

| December 31 |
Mike
Steed (G, Jr., 6-3) hit the game-winner with just 10 seconds
left in overtime as CSUDH clawed all the way back from a 39-30
halftime deficit to take a 70-69 win at Grand Canyon in their 2006
calendar year season finale. After connecting for 6 points on
3-of-5 shooting in the first half, Steed tallied 6 points after
the break, including 2-for-2 from the foul line, in spearheading
the Toros' come-from-behind win.

The
sharp-shooting Jessica Liang (G, Jr., 5-8) shared
game-high scoring honors with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting as the
Toros bested Minnesota-Crookston 73-53 to improve to 5-2 on year.
Liang scored 10 first half points, including 2-of-4 from behind
the arc, as CSUDH took a 33-24 halftime lead and never looked
back. Liang also was perfect from the line (3-for-3), with 3
boards and a steal in just 28 minutes played.

| December 24 |
Jamaal
Barnes (G, Jr., 6-3) tallied a double-double of 13 boards and
10 points as the Toros staged a come-from-behind 60-51 win over
visiting UC San Diego on December 20. Barnesr was a one-man show
in the first half, grabbing 7 boards and contributing 6 points,
while pulling down 6 more boards after the half, including a
one-handed defensive effort in which he skied well above the
Triton offensive players around the basket. Additionally, the uber
athlete displayed his athleticism with nearly 10 minutes elapsed
in the second half as he leapt over a UCSD defender and threw down
a monstrous alley-oop to bring the Toros to within a point. After
an ensuing miss from UCSD, Barnes drained two foul shots to give
CSUDH the lead at 39-38, a lead they would neer relinquish.

Sharp-shooting
Jessica Liang (G, Jr., 5-8) paced CSUDH with four
long-range bombs as she garnered game-high scoring honors with 14
points to lead the Toros to a 61-44 win over Notre Dame de Namur
on December 18. Liang drained both of her 1st half treys in the
games first five minutes as the Toros outscored the visitors
35-15 in the first 20-minute frame. Liang added 8 points in the
second half, and finished her solid effort with 2 steals, a block
and a board as the Toros improved to 4-2 on the year.

| December 17 |
Carlos
Rivers (Sr., 5-10, G) tallied 16 points as the Toros picked up
their third-consecutive win of the year in defeating The Master's
College 84-76, but it was his defensive efforts in the second half
that helped set the tone which helped fend off a late Mustang
charge. With TMC closing the gap, Rivers took two charges in a
span of 5 minutes which stopped the Mustang's rally, allowing
CSUDH to run away with the 18-point win.

Alana
Bailey (Jr., 6-0, F) was the lone bright spot for the Toros as
she connected for 5-of-8 shots and a team-high 13 points in the
57-50 loss to UC San Diego Saturday night. The junior forward also
pulled down a team-best 5 boards despite the Toros' frigid 31.5%
shooting night in the loss.

Shamont
Brown (6-4, Sr., G) led the Toros to an easy 83-51 win over
visiting University of Hawai'i at Hilo last Thursday, hitting
6-of-8 in the first half to help fuel CSUDH's 36-13 1st-half
explosion. The versatile guard connected on all three of his
second half shots as well, giving him a stellar 9-of-11 day at the
office. Brown also tied for team-high honors with 6 boards, adding
3 assists and 2 steals in the rout over UHH.

Unique
Bennett (5'8", Jr., G/F) played a key role as the Toros
picked up one win in two games played last week. In the rout over
visiting Grand Canyon, the junior tallied 15 points in just 14
minutes of play, draining 5-of-6 from behind the arc in a span of
8 second-half minutes to help the Toros pull away from the pesky
Antelopes and pick up their third win of the season. Bennett added
two boards, an assist and a steal in the blowout.

| December 3 |
Shamont
Brown (6-4, Sr., G) led the Toros to their first victory of
the new year, tallying 29 points and 13 boards on the weekend. The
6-4 senior connected for 59% of his field goals (10-of-17) and 69%
from the charity stripe (9-of-13), with all nine free throws
coming in the 68-60 win over Chico State last Saturday.

Brigayle
Iglehart (5-7, Jr., G) led the Toros to a perfect 2-0 record
to begin the season, dropping 27 in the season-opening win over
Cal State Stanislaus last Friday and adding 7 in balanced effort
in the upset win over No. 6 Chico State the following night, where
she also notched 6 boards, 6 assists and 3 steals. On the week,
the junior transfer averaged 17 points, 6 assists, 5.5 rebounds
and 5.5 steals as CSUDH finds itself atop the CCAA after the first
weekend of play, the only undefeated school in the league.

Wilmer
Lopez (Sr., 5-7, F) was stellar in the CCAA Title game as he
set up both goals in the Toros' 2-1 win to clinch their sixth CCAA
Title. Lopez set up Jesse Graham for the equalizer in the 65th
minute, and then corner kicked a perfect ball two minutes later to
Shogo Okuma, who headed in the game-winner.

Rachele
McDonald (5-5, Sr., F) was named the 2006 CCAA Player of the
Year, the second time in three years she's won the award.
Concluding her stellar three-year career in Cardinal & Gold,
McDonald sits 5th in CSUDH's record book for career points, is
tied for 5th in career goals and tied for 6th in career assists.

Jesse
Graham (Sr., 5-9, MF) Graham was instrumental in the Toros'
two victories this week, helping CSUDH earn a berth in the CCAA
Tournament. He scored the game-winner in the 5-1 win over CSUMB,
and then tallied 2 scores in the 3-1 win over SFSU last Sunday.

Courtney
Spainhour (Sr., 5-9, OH/L) got the Toros over the hump in
their come-from-behind victory over Cal Poly Pomona last Saturday,
enabling CSUDH to sweep the season series from the Broncos. She
tallied 13 kills and 11 digs for CSUDH's lone double double, and
brought the Toros to victory by tallying CSUDH's final three
points of the match.

Rachele
McDonald (5-5, Sr., F) scored a hat trick as the Toros went
1-1 on the week, besting Cal State Bakersfield. McDonald also
added an assist in the game to give her 7 points in the victory.

Humberto
Lopez (5-11, Jr., MF) converted on a penalty kick to give the
Toros a 1-0 win over Cal State Bakersfield as CSUDH went 1-1 last
week. Lopez's goal was only the 2nd score in 5 PK opportunities
for the Toros.

Jesse
Graham (Sr., 5-9, MF) scored the only goal in the Toros
1-0 win over UC San Diego last Wednesday to avenge an earlier 1-0
defeat at the hands of the Tritons, and then assisted on the
game-winning goal two days later as CSUDH took a 3-2 overtime win
at Cal State San Bernardino to give the Toros a season sweep of
the Coyotes, and a 2-0-1 record for the week.

Corrie
Hirokawa (Jr., 5-5, F) notched two goals and two assists as
the Toros went 2-1 over the week. Her first assist came on the
game-winning goal in the 5-0 win at Cal State San Bernardino,
while her second goal proved the only scoring in the Toros
1-0 win at Cal Poly Pomona yesterday.

Jesse
Graham (Sr., 5-9, MF) scored the only goal that the Toros
would need to knock off the previously undefeated Seawolves of
Sonoma State in the 26th minute, driving through the defense and
putting the ball into the back of the net. Graham would then
provide a perfect cross to a streaking Scott Mariano six minutes
later for his fourth assist of the season as CSUDH sunk Sonoma
State 5-0.

Arreana
Peoples (Fr., 6-2, MB) led the Toros to back-to-back
conference victories for the first time since 2004 over Humboldt
State and Sonoma State. Against the Jacks, recorded 27 kills
while hitting a blistering .575, followed by a 13 kill performance
the next night against the Seawolves. On the week, Peoples would
lead the Toros with 40 kills (4.44 kills per game), a .471 hitting
percentage and three service aces, while recording six block
assists.

Rivas (5-5, Jr. F) scored a goal in each game last week,
accounting for 66.7% of the total goals scored for the Toros.

Ashley
De Alejandro (5-4, Jr., GK) posted two shutouts, her first two
as a Toro, as CSUDH went 2-0 last week. She stopped 7 seven shots,
including 3 on Thursday, which handed cross-town rival Cal State
L.A. its first CCAA Conference loss of the year

Kyle
Polak (6-0, Sr., GK) had 7 saves in the 1-0 shutout over Cal
State Stanislaus last Sunday to salvage one win in three contests.
The senior keeper allowed just 2 goals in 283.4 minutes played,
good for a 0.64 goals against average on the week.

Hoffman (5-11. Sr., MB) had 15 kills and hit .355, committing
only 4 errors in 31 attempts, while adding 6 blocks as the
volleyball team went 1-1, picking up their first conference win of
the year in a 3-2 come-from-behind epic win over Cal Poly Pomona
last Friday.
