Walnut Creek, CA -- Junior Jennifer
Martinez (La Habra, CA/CSULB) has been named the Worth
California Collegiate Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the
Week for the week of February 5-11, it was announced this
afternoon by the CCAA Office.
Martinez, a junior from La Habra, went 3-1 with
a 1.35 ERA as she threw every pitch for the Toros in leading them
to a 3-1 opening weekend over Cal State Monterey Bay, including a
5-inning no-hitter in Fridays nightcap.
On day one, Martinez kept the Toros in the game
after the Otters scored 3 runs in the middle innings, fanning four
against just one walk as CSUDH staged a come-from-behind win. In
the nightcap, she was literally unhittable, tossing 5 innings of
no-hit ball in the 8-0 win. She faced just 15 batters, one over
the minimum for 5 innings, fanning 3 against just one walk.
After falling in a pitcher's duel in game one
the following day, Martinez came back strong in the nightcap,
scattering 4 hits and allowing just one unearned run.
On the weekend, Martinez threw all 26.0 innings
in four games, boasting a 3-1 record and 1.35 ERA. She allowed 5
earned runs in four games and boasted a strikeout-to-walk ratio of
nearly 3:1.
CSUDH packs its bags for Phoenix this weekend
as the Toros take part in the Schutt Lead Off Classic, scheduled
for February 15-17, before traveling to Humboldt State the weekend
of February 23-24.
