Alternative Forms of Credit
- Students are given the option of fulfilling General Education requirements through CLEP General Examinations or other standardized examinations in Humanities, Mathematics, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences approved by the appropriate academic departments.
- The General Education Committee will review the examinations which are approved for elective credit or other standardized examinations in Humanities, Mathematics, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences to determine whether they meet the objectives of specific General Education requirements and will recommend for approval for General Education Credit those examinations which meet the objectives; if any examinations are approved for such credit, the Senate is to be consulted about limits on maximum number of units of General Education credit to be awarded to students.
- Departments are given the option of accepting CLEP subject examinations as meeting requirements toward the major consistent with residence requirements; departments are to review CLEP subject examinations and other similar standardized subject matter examinations carrying upper division credit to determine their suitability and set minimum passing scores.
- Departments are encouraged to develop their own testing instruments for elective credit in courses which satisfy General Education requirements so as to take advantage of FTE credit according to existing course challenge policies.
