Interpretation of Chancellor’s Executive Order 665
- The Chancellor’s Executive Order 665 mandates that “campuses are encouraged to establish and enforce limits on remedial/developmental activity…” The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for CSU Dominguez Hills regarding these standards.
- Generally it is expected that freshmen will be prepared to take collegiate level lower division mathematics and English courses by the beginning of their third semester in residence. However, those students requiring initially two developmental English courses (i.e. 088 and 099) and four developmental mathematics courses (i.e. 011, 012, 013, and 014) shall be deemed as having achieved “satisfactory progress” and allowed to continue if:
- They have passed all but one of the two English courses,
- They have passed all but two of the four mathematics courses, and
- They have achieved a 2.0 or higher grade point average in their course work at CSU Dominguez Hills.
- This same opportunity shall apply to other freshman students who can complete their remaining developmental course(s) in a third semester.
- The Undergraduate Dean, in consultation with the Director of the University Advisement Center, may grant the third semester to complete the developmental courses on a case by case basis.
- All students allowed to continue on this basis generally will enroll in the one remaining required developmental course during their third semester and receive additional intrusive support in order to complete all developmental requirements by the end of the third semester.
