Academic Senate Resolution

FPC 23-10

Resolution on Bifurcation of Leaves and Honors Committee

2nd Reading

Approve:  41/ Oppose:0 /Abstain: 0

RESOLVED: That the Leaves and Honors Committee be bifurcated to create two committees: the Leaves Committee and the Honors Committee; and be it further,

RESOLVED: That policy AA 2018-01 be superseded by the below recommended Leaves Committee policy; and be it further,

RESOLVED: That policy AAPS018.001 be superseded by the below recommended Honors Committee policy; and be it further

RESOLVED: That the ASCSUDH distribute this resolution to: the President of CSUDH, Provost, Deans, AVP Faculty Affairs and Development, and the Faculty of CSUDH.

RATIONALE: The workload of the Leaves and Honors Committee as it currently stands includes review of the Faculty Awards, Sabbatical and Differential Pays and Assigned Time for Exceptional Service. Further, a student is currently assigned to the existing Faculty and Leaves Committee, which is not aligned with the Collective Bargaining Agreement as students do not adjudicate faculty assigned time.  Additionally, the workload of the Leaves and Honors Committee is heavy. The establishment of two committees, the Faculty Honors Committee and the University Leaves Committee would distribute the workload between two committees and provide for student feedback in the award of faculty honors.  Further, non-tenure track should be elected to the Honors Committee and receive a professional development stipend for their work.
