I Lead the Way for Science
Janet Andrade was named the 2012-2013 Project Lead The Way (PLTW) California Teacher of the Year for her ability to engage students at Bud Carson Middle School (BCMS) in Hawthorne in advanced hands-on engineering activities.
Andrade also began teaching a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) course at BCMS that reinforces what her students learn in their regular introductory algebra class. A few of her students won medals at a Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) competition, which was sponsored by and held at the University of Southern California.
