Joe Buscaino is a Los Angeles City Councilmember, first elected in 2012. He currently chairs the city’s Trade, Travel and Tourism Committee; is vice chair of the Public Works & Gang Reduction Committee and Economic Development Committee; and serves on the Public Safety Committee, and Ad Hoc Committee on the 2028 Olympics. In addition, he serves as the mayor’s appointee to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
Prior to his election, Buscaino was a Los Angeles Police Department police officer for 15 years. He created the LAPD’s first Teen Community Police Advisory Board, which works to break the barriers between police and teens. Buscaino served on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Harbor Area, the San Pedro YWCA’s Racial Justice Committee, and the Advisory Council for the Los Angeles Watts Summer Games.
