The Asian & Pacific Cultural Center is honored to be leading effort to facilitate the API Heritage Celebration at CSUDH. Nationally, API Heritage Month is celebrated in May. However, to make the celebration more accessible to students and the campus, we are observing API Heritage Month in April, and have branded these events as "API Heritage Celebration."
We invite campus to join us at the following events as we celebrate, learn, and engage in topics and events that touch on the diversity of our communities. We thank the many collaborators who made API Heritage Celebration possible.
The following were API Heritage Celebration events scheduled for 2024. 2025 programs will be announced at a later time.
The SWANA Association will be providing a workshop for doing henna designs. Come celebrate Arab American Heritage Month and Eid with SWANA Association by getting your creativity on. All supplies will be provided.
Join us for this Japanese lesson where you can learn how to introduce yourself, some daily greetings and more at this mini-lesson. “All” levels are welcome! No previous Japanese experience is required. Professor Sachi Johnston of Japanese culture and language and Japanese exchange students will help you learn Japanese through hands-on activity.

Bring your own lunch and join API Faculty & Staff Association for this special lecture on the Fall of Saigon and Southeast Asian Diaspora. Professor Y Thien Nguyen will lecture on this topic which commemorate the 49th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, also known as Black April.
Black April is the annual commemoration by the Vietnamese American community of the Fall of Saigon (April 30, 1975). The date historically marks the beginning of the Vietnamese refugee exodus and the eventual formation of the Vietnamese American community. The Vietnamese Heritage Museum (VHM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of Vietnamese refugee heritage. It collects and shares the testimonies and artifacts that tell the stories of refugees and aims to preserve this heritage for present and future generations to reflect upon. For this particular visit, the VHM has specially prepared an exhibition catering to college-aged Vietnamese American students, focusing on Vietnamese refugee identity, history, and memory.

2024 API and LGBTQ Graduates and Alumni are invited to this special mixer. The evening will consist of opening remarks by Dante Basco. Participants will have networking opportunities and connect with the alumni association.

The annual Asian & Pacific Islander (API) Graduation Celebration serves as a platform to recognize recent graduates for their academic and personal achievements at California State University, Dominguez Hills. This event provides an opportunity for engagement within the CSUDH Asian & Pacific Islander and Southwest Asian North Africans (SWANA) communities. It facilitates connections with support systems, allows the sharing of common experiences, and fosters a sense of belonging and pride.
During the API Graduation Celebration, two awards are presented to members of the CSUDH community who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and service to the Asian & Pacific Islander (API) community throughout their time at the university. The Donald T. Hata “Poised to Prevail” Award is presented to a member of the CSUDH faculty, administration, staff, or alumni, and the Journey to Success student award honors an exceptional graduating CSUDH student.
