Black Is Back: The Rose Black Resource Center

With all the new students on campus, the “Welcome Black” mixer hosted by The Rose Black Resource Center Tuesday, was the perfect opportunity for both new and returning students to learn about the different Black clubs, organizations, events and workshops on campus.

The Rose Black Resource Center, founded in 2017, is intended to be a safe space for Black students at CSUDH. By offering academic advising, writing advising and career coaching, the RBRC aims to increase black student enrollment and graduation rates. [Read more…]

Queens Of Poetry Promote Sisterhood, Cultural Identity

The queens unite! The student-led group, Talk 2 Me Sis, which promotes and fosters community building among Black students, hosted a special event on March 27th called “Queens of Poetry,” which was a poetry event to pay homage to female poets of color. Coordinated by students Jaclyn Okwumabua and Tianna Townsend, this is the 2nd annual Queens of Poetry event and it was set to close out International Women’s Month with support from 30 current and former Toro students. Rose Black Resource Center Welcomes New Coordinator

The Rose Black Resource Center (RBRC) welcomed Catherine Jermany as its new coordinator Thursday, Feb. 28. Founded in 2017, the RBRC, named in part in homage to Tupac Shakur’s poem “The Rose that Grew From Concrete,” offers programming, resources, and services that promote the academic, cultural, career, and social development of African-American students. CSU Dominguez Hills to Cut Ribbon on The Rose Black Resource Center March 21

California State University, Dominguez Hill’s (CSUDH) new Black Resource Center (BRC), which is nicknamed “The Rose” after Tupac Shakur’s poem “The Rose That Grew From Concrete,” will officially open with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, March 21, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., in Loker Student Union Room 132. “The center serves as a safe space for African-American students on campus,” said Jonathan Henderson, coordinator of the BRC.
