Admission Requirements

International admissions for degree programs at CSUDH. International applicants for admission to degree programs must meet CSUDH general admission requirements as well as program requirements. If you are applying for graduate program, please contact program coordinator for information about additional requirements, test scores (GMAT or GRE) and documents. Listed below are general admission requirements.

First Time Freshmen

Transferring Students

Graduate Applicants

Students applying to undergraduate degree programs with no previous coursework at a college or university are considered first–time freshmen.

You may be qualified for international freshman admission, if you –

  1. Have a high school diploma;

  2. Have earned a GPA of 3.0 (B grade, A=4.0) or better for all the courses taken; and

  3. Have met English Proficiency requirement -

    1)  English LANGUAGE TEST
           TOEFL score of: 
              500 (paper-based),
              61 (internet-based), 
              173 (computer-based)

           Or, 
    IELTS score of 5.5

    2)  500 in SAT Critical Reading,

    3)  22 in ACT English,

    4)  3 in AP English Language and Literature, OR

    5)  A satisfactory score in English Placement Test, or

     

Students applying to undergraduate degree programs with a high school diploma and some coursework at a college or university are considered “transfer” applicants.

You may be qualified for international freshman admission, if you –

  1. Have good academic standing with a GPA of 2.0 (C grade, A=4.0) or better for all the undergraduate courses taken, including Math; and
  1. Have met English Proficiency requirement -
     
    1)  English LANGUAGE TEST
           TOEFL score of: 
              500 (paper-based),
              61 (internet-based), 
              173 (computer-based)

           Or, 
    IELTS score of 5.5

    2)  500 in SAT Critical Reading,

    3)  22 in ACT English,

    4)  3 in AP English Language and Literature,

    5)  A satisfactory score in English Placement Test, or

    6)  Transferable English courses

Students who have earned a degree equivalent to a four-year U.S. bachelor’s degree may apply for a master's degree. These applicants are considered “graduate” applicants.

You may be qualified for international graduate admission, if you –

  1. Have a bachelor degree;

  2. Have earned a GPA of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) on the last degree completed or have attained a GPA of at least 2.5 in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted; and

  3. Have met English Proficiency requirement - 
           TOEFL score of: 
              550 (paper-based),
              80 (internet-based), 
              213 (computer-based)

           Or, IELTS score of 6.5.  

Students who speak English as a native language or have had three years (full-time) or more of secondary education taught in English are exempt from English Proficiency requirement. For detailed description, please click on this link - ADMISSIONS CRITERIA FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.

International applicants who have met all admission requirements except English Proficiency can apply for conditional admission through American Language and Culture Program (ALCP). Once they have improved their English skills and pass TOEFL/IELTS OR qualify for an ALCP English Proficiency Waiver, they can start their degree program.
