Degree Options (Starting Spring 2025)

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Child Development with General Concentration

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Child Development with Counseling & Family Services Concentration

This option is for students who may work in a variety of career settings serving families and children. Students interested in careers in family and child services, social work, counseling, or parent education would benefit from this concentration. Students will gain knowledge and skills in working with families, cultural diversity in child and family services, and common challenges in families and communities. Students will further gain knowledge and skills to prepare them for entry into graduate programs such as marriage and family therapy, social work, counseling, and clinical psychology. Students should examine the admission requirements for the graduate programs they plan to apply for and select elective courses accordingly.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Child Development with Early Development and Learning Concentration

This option is designed to prepare students with knowledge and skills in curriculum development, observation, and assessment methods in early childhood education settings. Students who intend to work as teachers would benefit from this concentration. Students will select one of the following tracks:

  • Child Development Teacher Permit Track
  • PK-3 Credential Track*
  • Early Childhood Special Education Credential Track**

* To earn a PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential, students must apply for the PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential program after completing the Bachelor’s degree. If students are accepted at the CSUDH PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential Program, this track will allow them to complete the credential in 2 semesters rather than 3 semesters by completing a semester’s worth of credential classes as a part of the Bachelor’s degree.

** To earn an Early Childhood Special Education Credential, students must apply for the Early Childhood Special Education Credential program after the Bachelor’s degree. If they are accepted at the CSUDH Special Education Program, this track will allow them to be intern-eligible (Students can get a job as Classroom Teacher of Record and get paid while completing their credential).
