Minors

Minors in Child Development (Starting Fall 2025)

Minor in Child Development (18 units)

The Minor in Child Development introduces students to the study of child and adolescent development. Students will gain foundational, theoretical, and applied knowledge necessary for working with children, adolescents, and families, complementing a variety of majors.

Minor in Early Childhood Development and Education (24 units)

The Minor in Early Childhood Development and Education is designed for non-CDV major students who are interested in becoming a teacher in early childhood education settings (e.g., preschools and elementary schools). The minor will provide undergraduate students with foundational, theoretical, and applied knowledge necessary for understanding and supporting children’s early development and learning in a variety of early childhood settings. This minor also provides students with coursework to prepare for the Child Development Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and/or to provide subject matter for the PK-3 Early Childhood Education (ECE) Specialist Instruction Credential.

* To earn a PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential, students must apply for the PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential program after completing the Bachelor’s degree. See more information about the CSUDH PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential Program.
