College of Education expands, elevating the School and College Counseling program to an academic department

Carson, CA (June 27, 2024) - The College of Education will convert the School and Counseling Program into a full academic department, following approval from the CSUDH Academic Senate and President on Tuesday, June 26th.

"I’m ecstatic to hear the great news and to support our new department’s faculty, staff and students," says Jessica Pandya, College of Education Dean.

“The elevation of the School and Counseling program to a department affirms the university and college’s commitment to continual growth.”

The new Department of School and College Counseling will continue to offer master’s degrees in counseling with concentrations in school and college counseling, the pupil personnel services credential in school counseling with the child welfare and attendance authorization, and a certificate in college counseling.

Academic diversity and exploration are built into the College of Education’s academic structure of centers, programs and partnerships. This structure allows the college to explore disciplinary opportunities at the program and center level, then build some offerings into full-fledged departments over time.

“The Counseling faculty and I are elated to be becoming our own department,” says Adriean Mancillas, School and College Counseling Program Director, who will now serve as Department Chair.

“We are truly grateful for the support of our colleagues in the College of Education and the campus community in making this elevation happen for us. We are looking forward to continuing to grow within the College of Education.”

More information about the School and College Counseling Department is available on the department’s website or from the department chair, Adriean Mancillas, at 310-243-3524 or amancillas@csudh.edu.
