Ways to Meet Subject Matter

PK-3 ECE Specialist Instruction Credential: Subject Matter Review

Please read the directions carefully. Many majors will not qualify for a major match.

Note: This subject matter review is for students accepted or enrolled in the College of Education at CSUDH. Other credential programs may wish to independently verify subject matter.

Candidates must hold baccalaureate degrees or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education. In addition, each candidate must meet the subject matter requirement prior to being given daily whole class instructional responsibilities in a preschool through third grade setting, which may include one of the following two options:

    • Possession of a baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a degree major in Child Development, Child and Adolescent Development, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies, Early Childhood Studies, Human Development and Family Science, Family Science, or Child, Adolescent, and Family Studies.
  •           OR
  •
    • Completion of 24 semester units or the equivalent quarter units of non-remedial, degree-applicable coursework at a regionally accredited institution of higher education in early childhood education and/or child development.
  1. Order or gather official transcripts from the university that conferred the degree. The conferral is usually at the top or end of the transcript. Official transcripts must be unencrypted when uploaded; therefore, it is recommended that you have any electronic transcripts sent to yourself, so that you can download them appropriately before you upload and submit them. Unofficial transcripts can be used for degrees granted by CSUDH.
  2. For completion of 24 units only: In addition to transcripts, you must also provide supporting evidence that identifies how the courses completed meet the requirements as listed in the domain description. This can include A), course syllabi (with course description), B), links to institution websites where the course description is listed, or C), course catalogs or links to online course catalogs.

Note: all reviews will be verified by an evaluator.

Before completing the Qualtrics link, obtain copies of all transcripts and all supporting evidence. You will upload all evidence for review in the Qualtrics link after you complete your student information.
