Scholarships

The College of Business Administration and Public Policy awarded approximately $37,200 to CBAPP students for the 2023-2024 academic year. CBAPP scholarship applications are usually made available in the spring semester for award distribution in the next academic year. These scholarships are only available to students with declared majors in the College of Business Administration and Public Policy who meet the eligibility criteria.

Application Instructions

Complete the instructions below to apply for the CBAPP Scholarships on MyCSUDH. Students should prepare a personal statement prior to starting the application, then copy and paste the statement into the online application. Students should also download their unofficial transcripts for free in MyCSUDH > Student Center > Academic Requirements and then upload them to the application. 

Personal Statement:

Please provide a brief personal statement. The statement cannot exceed 1200 words. Your statement should include the following:

  • Achievements (including any involvement in special projects, research or papers that are part of your academic studies)
  • Family Background
  • Academic Potential
  • Your career and educational plans for the future
  • How this scholarship will help both monetarily and personally
  • Challenges that you have encountered
  • Any other information relevant to this application

  2. Click Scholarships
  3. Click Apply for CSUDH Scholarships
  4. Log in using your CSUDH credentials
  5. Locate the CBAPP Scholarship Application
  6. Select Start Application
  7. Complete the application
  8. Copy and paste your personal statement into the application
  9. Attach your unofficial transcripts
  10. Submit

Scholarships

The CBAPP scholarships that are usually available each year are noted below. Students must maintain all eligibility criteria during the award year in order to be awarded scholarship funds.

•be a CSUDH student in good academic standing
•live in one of the following zip codes: 90001, 90002, 90003, 90059, 90061, 90221, or 90222
•have a declared major within CSUDH’s CBAPP
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

CBAPP Advisory Board Scholarship

$1,000

•be a current CSUDH CBAPP student
•be a senior in the award year
•possess an upper-division major GPA of 3.0 or better in courses completed at CSUDH
•be enrolled in at least 12 units during the semester for which student applies for the scholarship
demonstrate financial hardship via personal statement

CBAPP Alumni Endowed Scholarship

$1,500

•be a CBAPP student
•demonstrate financial need via personal statement

CBAPP General Scholarship

$4,150

•be a current CSUDH CBAPP student
•be a junior or senior
•possess an upper-division major GPA of 3.0 or better in courses completed at CSUDH
•be enrolled in at least 12 units during the semester for which student applies for the scholarship

Chiou-Hsiung "Bear" Chang Scholarship

$5,000

•be a CBAPP student in good academic standing
•have a declared major within CSUDH’s CBAPP
•indicated their intention to graduate from CBAPP
•applicants must submit a short personal statement

Donald Jones Endowed Memorial Scholarship

$1,000

•be a Criminal Justice Administration major at CSUDH
•be a U.S. citizen
•has already demonstrated a strong ability to succeed in a university environment
•currently holding at least a "C" average overall, and at least a "C+" average in Criminal Justice Administration coursework
•submit CSUDH transcript
•capable of demonstrating their need for financial assistance, due to low income or large family size
•be willing to use the award to offset the cost of books, tuition, and lodging associated with the pursuit of their degree
•turn in a complete scholarship application and comply with all dates and deadlines associated with the dispensation of this award
•has expressed a strong desire to pursue a professional career in the field of law enforcement

Gil & Shirley Smith Scholarship

$950

•demonstrate a need for financial assistance
•be a continuing undergraduate CSUDH CBAPP student with at least one semester of coursework remaining
•possess a minimum 3.0 GPA, either major or overall
must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Roger W. Berry Ph.D. Endowed Scholarship

$2,000

•have a declared major within CSUDH's CBAPP
•be a US citizen
•minimum 3.0 GPA
•be a full-time student
•be enrolled in CSUDH courses during the award year

Senator Joseph M. Kennick Scholarship

$500

•be a Criminal Justice major at CSUDH
•be a student in good academic standing
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Vicente Sarmiento Memorial Scholarship

$1,000

•demonstrated financial need via personal statement
•current undergraduate student
•Criminal Justice Administration major
•student who demonstrates a commitment to reforming the criminal justice system and/or demonstrates an interest in improving the conditions of confinement of the incarcerated via personal statement
