PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Dr. Hay is an experienced instructor and researcher specializing in remote sensing as it applies to land use and land cover change. He has extensive international experience in applied remote sensing, environmental change, vulnerability assessment and household livelihood security.  He has worked in Saudi Arabia, Malawi, The Gambia, Zambia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Sudan, Ethiopia, India and Sri Lanka. Dr. Hay is recently participating in a GIS project to map the hybrid adoption in India, Nepal and Bangladesh.

RECENT FUNDED RESEARCH AND PROJECTS

Dr. Hay has been the Principle Investigator or Co-Principle Investigator on grants totaling over six million dollars.  As Director for the Center for Urban Environmental Change (CUER), Dr. Hay received approximately $350,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to initiate a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, establish a native plant propagation area, and renovate computer laboratories. Dr. Hay recently consulted with the Bill and Medina Gate Foundation on the Stress Tolerant Rice for Africa and South Asia (STRASA) project.
