The following assessment has been prepared to assist CSUDH staff in the identification of hazards that may be present in University work classifications. It is only a guide and should not be taken to imply that only the listed hazards are the only risk present in the applicable work classification. It is the responsibility of all employees, supervisors, and managers to constantly evaluate each work tasks (before, during, and after performance of the task) and identify any hazards that could be a danger to the worker and take steps to control, reduce, and/or eliminate the risk to the University worker.

Constant contact with pinch points | Use proper machine guards (for example, on paper cutters); operator should observe caution signage and keep fingers safe distance away from pinch points |
Potential inhalation of dust (especially in copy room) | Keep work area well ventilated; perform air monitoring during high-usage period of time to obtain baseline information |
Potential paper cuts | Avoid sliding skin along paper edges |
Constant heavy lifting | Use proper lifting techniques and ergonomic principles. Seek assistance if necessary |
Potential exposure to hazardous substances | Wear proper gloves and eye protection |
Improper use of powered equipment (shredder, binders, cutting machines, etc.) | Use proper machine guards; operator should maintain a safe distance between a sharp object and their body |
Potential electrical shock | Use grounded equipment, insure Lockout/Tagout is completed when performing maintenance |
