Central Plant

The Central Plant unit is responsible for the operation of mechanical systems, including the heating, ventilation and air conditioning of all university buildings. Many of the buildings on campus are controlled with new electronic temperature controls. These buildings require special attention for the control of comfort and energy management. This task is performed by the Facilities Control Specialist, who is able to monitor and control building comfort from the Central Plant control room.

The refrigeration mechanics respond to calls reporting temperatures that are too hot or too cold in offices and other facilities. Their primary responsibility is to maintain a comfortable environment within buildings for all occupants. The refrigeration mechanics also provide service on the air conditioning and refrigeration systems that are part of building mechanical systems, which includes walk-in refrigerators, chillers, drinking fountains, and environmental control chambers.

Scheduling Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Services

Most HVAC services must be scheduled to run on a specific day and time. This is accomplished through programming into the campus' Building Automation System (BAS). Most of the HVAC schedules are based on a weekly room occupancy list provided to Facilities Services by the Facilities Leasing and Scheduling office. If you plan to hold an event after normal business hours, on a weekend, or on a campus holiday, and need HVAC scheduling, you must submit a Facilities Services online Work Request Form directly to the Work Control Center.

For questions regarding campus energy use, energy conservation, and other related questions, email the Central Plant Manager at kseeton@csudh.edu.

Call the Work Control Center at (310) 243-3804 to report problems relating to heating and air conditioning.

Hot/Cold Issues

If you are experiencing hot or cold temperature problems in your office or area, please contact Central Plant at extension 2017. If there is no answer, please fill out a Hot/Cold Issue ticket. An email will be sent to Central Plant personnel, who will then examine the problem and follow up with you.
