As a first-generation Mexican American college student, Dominguez Hills and the History Department more specifically fostered a nurturing and academically demanding community. At the start of my career in higher education, I had no idea what I wanted to do with a history degree. However, professors encouraged me to apply to graduate preparatory programs and to sign up for student research day. I was also equally encouraged by my own cohort of history students, and I felt confident enough to share my career goals and academic anxieties with them. Because of their support, I am currently a Ph.D. student in Chicana/o and U.S. history at the University of California, Irvine.
My work centers around the identity creation of Chicana/os through cultural/artistic expression during the Chicana/o Movement.
