Reporting a student injury during a class, lab, field trip, or intern program

Students injured in class or on a field trip that are not student assistants or participating in a work study program, are not covered under workers’ compensation. Students injured while working from a Grant or Intern program will be handled as per the contract. Graduate students are covered under workers’ compensation.

Students

Students injured in your class or on a field trip are not covered under workers' compensation. However, the injury must be reported. Please use the Accident Report form to report these injuries.

Notification of these injuries should be sent to the Risk Management department located at Small College Complex 1015. Please send them the original and keep a copy in your department file.

Student Assistants

If the student was working as a volunteer, student assistant, or was on a work study program during the incident, an Employee/Volunteer Report of Injury/Illness form must be filled out; do not fill out the Accident Report form.

In Workers’ Compensation, volunteers, student assistants, or students who are injured or become ill while on a work study program are viewed as employees and will be afforded most benefits available to regular employees.

Graduate Students

If the student was working as a graduate student during the incident, an Employee/Volunteer Report of Injury/Illness form must be filled out; do not fill out the Accident Report form.
