Objective

Undocumented students (also known as Dreamers) are a significant population on campus with over 600 students representing over 20 different countries around the world. These students face unique challenges that impact their enrollment, retention, and academic success.

The Ally Training aims to inform faculty and staff on how to create a welcoming and supportive campus environment for undocumented students. The training consists of a brief review of immigration history, discussions about the policies and laws that are currently affecting students, a student panel, and an activity on how we can best serve students who are systematically impacted by our immigration system.

Goals

After the training, you will have a better understanding of the:

  • unique needs and challenges of undocumented students at CSUDH
  • policies and laws pertaining to undocumented immigrants
  • resources available for undocumented students at CSUDH
  • ways individuals can be advocates for undocumented students

Decal

Upon completion of the training, individuals receive an ally decal (shown at top of page). The decal represents to undocumented students that the individual, who has the decal prominently displayed in their immediate work-space, is an ally who is familiar, supportive, and committed to working toward providing a safe, confidential support network for members of the undocumented community.
