Porscha Singh Wins Again with Second Place at Student Research Day 2020

Porscha Singh won 2nd Place on Student Research Day

MMUF senior Fellow Porscha Singh, Communications major, places in her session, Humanities and Letters II, for the second year in a row at Student Research Day with her presentation "'Oh No You Didn’t!': Understanding Sapphireness and Unpacking Media Essentializing of the Angry Black Woman Trope in Television." This presentation was based on her ongoing Mellon research. Porscha placed an impressive second place in a panel of ten amazing student presentations. Congratulations, Porscha!


Fellow Lizbeth Zuniga Presents Research at the AAHHE Annual National Conference

MMUF Students: Lizbeth Zuniga gives presentation on creating Space for Latinx and Chicanx Academic Excellence in Higher Education

One of our MMUF Fellows, Lizbeth Zuniga, who is a Chicanx Studies major, presented her work at this year's American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) annual conference in Costa Mesa, California. AAHHE is a prestigious national organization dedicated to addressing issues and concerns affecting the Hispanic population. Lizbeth's talk, which was presented alongside her faculty mentor and a peer, was titled, "Creating Space for Latinx and Chicanx Academic Excellence in Higher Education." We are proud of Lizbeth and her mentor, Dr. Benavides Lopez!

MMUF Fellow Porscha Singh Wins First Place at CSUDH Student Research Day

MMUF Students: Lizbeth Zuniga and Porscha Singh

Porscha Singh, a Communications major and MMUF Fellow, won first place at her session, Humanities Letters II, at CSUDH's 2019 Student Research Day. Her presentation, which draws from her MMUF research, was titled, "The Sweet Representations of Queen Sugar." Her win comes with a cash prize of $100 and much applause from her Mellon family. Congratulations, Porscha!
