Benito Gómez Madrid, Ph.D., Professor of Modern Languages, received his Ph.D. in Hispanic Languages and Literatures from UCLA. Dr. Gómez was born in Madrid, Spain, and graduated from Alcalá de Henares University before moving to Los Angeles. He is an award-winning Professor (CSUDH’s 2018 Excellence in Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Award), who teaches courses in Spanish literature, culture, and writing. He has published some 30 articles and four books: La influencia experimentada desde la nueva periferia: El caso de la literatura española post-imperial (2018); La búsqueda de voz en la literatura de la mujer hispana a finales del siglo XX (2019); El fenómeno de la escritura como autoterapia en la literatura latinoamericana (2021); y Realidad y Evasión en Don Quijote (2023). He has organized nine international symposia on Hispanic literature at CSUDH and several other events. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Alba de América, an international academic journal online. He is currently working on a book that surveys key films in Spanish history.
