During the last 20 years, he has organized conferences on student retention which morphed into the annual Latino university student mental health conference. He also established a program that combines a Spanish minor with a major in mental health recovery to graduate bilingual mental health promoters in the Latino community. In 2019, he was selected to be on the state advisory board of California HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America).

He continues to be very involved in outreach and retention activities in high schools and parent groups in the Latino community. He has presented many bilingual “university readiness” workshops to incoming students and their parents, on and off campus.
