Program Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes for a B.A. in Spanish

  1. Cultural Literacy: Examine the validity of one’s own cultural beliefs, behaviors, and norms by contrasting and comparing them with those of other cultures in the global context.

  2. Performance Skills: Demonstrate knowledge of the main concepts and theories of Linguistics and periods, authors, and developments in Spanish and Spanish American literatures, and analyze literary texts (Literature and Linguistics Option), or applied Spanish as used in the professions (Spanish for the Professions Option).

  3. Discipline Proficiency: Demonstrate knowledge of the disciplines of Linguistics and Literature (Literature and Linguistics Option) or Spanish for the professions (Spanish for the Professions Option) as they apply to the study of the Spanish language.

  4. Oral Communication: Students demonstrate advanced levels of proficiency (as defined in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines) in Spanish in speaking and listening.

  5. Written Communication: Students demonstrate advanced levels of proficiency (as defined in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines) in Spanish in writing, and reading.

  6. Critical Thinking: Students will utilize information literacy for literary and/or linguistic research and information literacy skills in using traditional and electronic sources for both oral and written projects.
