Hailed as a voice with, “rich vocal color and appealing quality”, he is known for his range of expression and clarity on the podium as well as a tenor in solo and choral ensemble performance. While earning his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Westminster Choir College of Rider University he began his career as a chorister, singing in choirs and small ensembles behind some of the most influential artists of the age: Julie Andrews, Linda Eder, Denyce Graves, Patti LaBelle, and Sarah Brightman; and with the New York Philharmonic (Maazel, Dutoit, Davis), New Jersey Symphony (Macal), and the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra (Dougherty).
Lynn’s solo credits include performances in recital as well as larger masterworks with Litha Symphony Orchestra (NY), Richmond Philharmonic Orchestra, Petersburg Orchestra (VA), Swarthmore Chorale (PA), Masterworks Chorale of Central Virginia, Masterworks Chorale of the Shenandoah Valley, and Princeton Pro Musica.
In 2012, Dr. Atkins was hooded as the first Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting Performance, Pedagogy, and Literature from James Madison University. For his efforts as student, instructor, and performer at JMU, he was inducted into the Iota Eta Chapter of the Society of Pi Kappa Lambda, the National Music Honor Society. In 2018, he was inducted into the Richmond Chapter of Choir Psi Phi National Music Society.
