An Orange County native, Dr. Kevin St. Clair pursued musical studies at Chapman University, Yale University and the University of Southern California. His doctoral studies at USC included elective fields in choral music, vocal pedagogy, music history, and operatic stage direction. The first live opera performance he attended was Long Beach Opera’s production of The Barber of Seville, which inspired him to pursue a career in opera performance. He made his professional debut as Nemorino in The Elixir of Love and has since performed with opera companies and orchestras nationwide, including Washington National Opera, Santa Fe Opera, LA Philharmonic, LA Opera, Pacific Symphony, and Opera Pacific. St. Clair returned to Long Beach Opera in 2013 to serve as LBO’s Associate Director of Engagement, where he staged and produced Grigory Frid's The Diary of Anne Frank, Lisa Scola Prosek's Daughter of the Red Tsar, and Robert Xavier Rodriguez's Mono mira, mono hace (Monkey See, Monkey Do).
Dr. St. Clair has taught voice, music appreciation, and chamber music at Cal State Dominguez Hills and remains active as a performer, including recent guest appearances with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Pacific Chorale, and John Alexander Singers. St. Clair also serves as Program Director for the Angels Vocal Art Opera Summer Opera Intensive training program for emerging professional classical singers. Long active in music ministry, St. Clair has served as director of music at prominent churches in LA and OC. He currently serves on the music staff at St. John Fisher Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. St. Clair lives in Huntington Beach with his wife Neda St. Clair, an accomplished pianist, vocal coach and scholar, their dog Mona, and rabbit Hazel.
