CSUDH Ensemble Placement and Music Theory/Musicianship Placement Assessment
The CSUDH Department of Music welcomes all incoming students pursuing a music degree in Music Performance, Music Education, and Music Liberal Arts. As an unimpacted department, acceptance auditions are currently not required. Incoming music majors should come prepared to meet or exceed the performance technical requirements of accredited music degrees on the student’s primary instrument, such as proficiency in the 12 major and minor scales.
Steps for students wishing to attend CSUDH and major in music:
- Apply to the University
- Receive admittance email and complete intent to enroll steps
- Attend a New Student Orientation (NSO) the summer before the Fall semester start date
- Meet music faculty, provide information about background and primary instrument, and obtain exact dates for Ensemble Placement and Music Theory/Musicianship Placement Assessment that take place the week prior to the first day of school.
- Receive advising guidance from music faculty during the New Student Orientation.
- Enroll in classes before leaving the New Student Orientation.
- Attend Ensemble Placement and, if necessary, Music Theory/Musicianship Placement Assessment
- Ensemble Placement and Music Theory/Musicianship Placement Assessment take place the week prior to the first day of school. The exact date(s) and times will be shared with students during the NSO.
