Course Description

40-House HAZWOPERThe course emphasizes potential health hazards and other hazards present on the site; use of personal protective equipment; common work practices to minimize risks from hazards; common engineering controls; medical surveillance requirements including recognition of symptoms and signs which might indicate overexposure to hazards; and site safety and health plans.

Who Should Attend

This training is for general site workers (such as equipment operators, general laborers, and supervisory personnel) engaged in hazardous substance removal or other activities which expose or potentially expose workers to hazardous substances and health hazards.

Learning Outcomes

Upon the successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe 5192 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Regulation
  2. Recognize common safety, health and other hazards present on the site
  3. Utilize common personal protective equipment for HAZWOPER
  4. Identify common work practices by which the employee can minimize risks from hazards
  5. Develop safe use of engineering controls and equipment on the site
  6. Describe medical surveillance requirements including recognition of symptoms and signs which might indicate overexposure to hazards
  7. Identify Permit Required Confined Space Requirements

 Registration Eligibility

Students who wish to participate in OSHA–numbered courses in the online synchronous video conferencing format must have a valid physical address in OSHA's San Francisco Region (AK, AZ, CA, OR, NV, HI, ID, WA, Guam, and American Samoa), or obtain permission from their local OTIEC to attend a class outside their home region.

Other CSUDH OTIEC courses can be taken by anyone (no residency required).
