Steps to Enroll:

  1. Submit a copy the FRONT and BACK of your current Outreach Trainer Card* to the  OSHA Dropbox.
  2. If verification documentation is approved, you will receive an email from CSUDH OSHA staff confirming approval (please allow 3 business days for processing).

Course Description

Maritime UpdateThis course provides an update on OSHA Maritime Standards, policies, and regulations. Participation in this course will further develop effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniques to clearly identify, define, and explain maritime industry hazards and acceptable corrective measures.

This course is designed for individuals who have successfully completed OSHA 5400: Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the Maritime Industry and are active OSHA Outreach trainers conducting 10- and 30-hour maritime classes in shipyard employment, marine terminals, and long shoring.

Who Should Attend

Individuals looking to update their Maritime Outreach Trainer Authorization, trainers must renew their authorization every four years.  

Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain significant changes in the Maritime Industry that have occurred within the previous four years
  2. Describe changes in the OSHA Outreach Training Program
  3. Apply adult learning principles to training development processes
  4. Select and apply proper techniques for effective electronic presentations
  5. Demonstrate the ability to effectively deliver OSHA Maritime training

CEUs: 2.2
Prerequisites: OSHA 5400: Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for the Maritime Industry. Authorized OSHA Outreach trainers are required to attend this course once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status. Prior to registration, students must provide a copy of their current Outreach Training Program trainer card or an official transcript from the respective OSHA Training Institute Education Center to verify Outreach Training Program trainer authorized status.
Course Length: 6 days
Recommended Materials: Pen, pencil, highlighter and writing pad. It is recommended that each student bring a laptop for use in preparing presentations.


 

 Registration Eligibility

Students who wish to participate in OSHA–numbered courses in the online synchronous video conferencing format must have a valid physical address in Region 9 (CA, NV, HI, AZ, Guam, and American Samoa), or obtain permission from their local OTIEC to attend a class outside their home region.

Other CSUDH OTIEC courses can be taken by anyone (no residency required).

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (4G/LTE or better)
  • Access to computer or laptop with built-in camera – one student per device
  • OSHA 510, 511, 500 and 501 Students only:
    Additional stand-alone webcam or secondary device (phone)
  • Built-in or external speakers/headset and microphone
