Steps to Enroll

Review the Prerequisite Verification Form FAQ for detailed instructions, as well as the Prerequisites section below.
Download and complete the fillable Prerequisite Verification form PDF (see FAQ link above). The prerequisite form must clearly indicate that the applicant has 5 years of experience overseeing workplace safety in the applicable industry.
Submit the completed form PDF to the OSHA Dropbox. THE PREREQUISITE VERIFICATION FORM MUST BE SUBMITTED AT LEAST 10 WORKING DAYS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE CLASS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
By submitting the Prerequisite Verification Form, the applicant is agreeing to the following statement: “I have read the testing and equipment requirements listed on your website and I’m able to meet these requirements.”
If verification documentation is approved, you will receive an email from CSUDH OSHA staff confirming the completion of your course registration (please allow 3 business days for processing).

Course Description

This course covers the OSH Act, Executive Order 12196, and the OSHA General Industry Standards, with special emphasis on areas in general industry which are most hazardous. This course is intended for federal agency collateral duty safety and health personnel.

Upon course completion, students will have the ability to define general industry terms, identify hazards that occur in general industry, determine appropriate standards and regulations for federal agencies, locate OSHA General Industry Standards, policies, and procedures, and describe the use of the OSHA General Industry Standards and regulations to effectively assist agency safety and health officers with inspection and abatement efforts.

Federal agency collateral duty safety and health personnel, as well as contractors conducting work at federal facilities.

Locate and apply OSHA Safety and Health standards, policies, and procedures
Utilize OSHA standards and regulations to supplement a safety and health program
Identify common violations of OSHA standards and propose abatement actions
Describe appropriate abatement procedures for selected safety and health hazards

Registration Eligibility

Students who wish to participate in OSHA–numbered courses in the online synchronous video conferencing format must have a valid physical address in OSHA's San Francisco Region (AK, AZ, CA, OR, NV, HI, ID, WA, Guam, and American Samoa), or obtain permission from their local OTIEC to attend a class outside their home region.

Other CSUDH OTIEC courses can be taken by anyone (no residency required).
