Dr. Penoliar has practiced as an Occupational Therapist specializing in neurological disorders. He has extensive experience working with the adult and geriatric populations in a variety of settings ranging from tertiary care hospital facilities to community rehabilitation. He serves as Faculty and Fieldwork Educator teaching courses in conditions and interventions for the adult and geriatric populations. He also serves as the Coordinator for OT International Programs developing international service-learning internships and cultural experience programs in Mexico and, more recently, in Bulgaria.
Through the scholarship of application, Dr. Penoliar has been instrumental in the development of a faculty-led fieldwork program at the Carson Stroke Center as well as the international programs in Mexico and Bulgaria. This unique international experience provides students with an opportunity to use their theoretical knowledge base acquired in the classroom and integrate it through interventions in a foreign environment coupled with cultural challenges. At CSUDH, Dr. Penoliar teaches interventions, medical conditions, and case seminar courses in the adult and geriatric semesters in the MSOT Program as well as coordinates the Continuing Education and Special Session courses offered by the Occupational Therapy Department through the College of Extended and International Education.
