Business Process Improvement (BPI)

The CSUDH Office of Process and Project Management (PPM) supports digital transformation efforts using the CSUDH Business Process Improvement Program.

Business Process Improvement (BPI) follows a structured, forward-thinking approach to reengineering business processes. It encompasses distinct phases, including initiation, evaluation, and action, all geared towards achieving process objectives such as monthly reconciliation, class registration, and student refunds. BPI is an iterative process that challenges existing processes, technology, norms, and patterns. It is a forward-thinking process with action aimed at understanding what is currently happening in a process, why it is happening, and what future action is desired.

BPI Steps:

  • Project initiation and defining the organizational context of where the process lives.
  • Identification of the current state of the process, examining how tasks are presently executed.
  • Analysis of the current state of the process, highlighting any redundancies, delays, or pain points.
  • Description of the desired future state of the process and what the ideal process would be.
  • Proposal of a Recommended Action Plan (RAP) and implementation of changes, whenever feasible.
