Youth Leadership Institute

Program Flyer [PDF]

I'm Hannah, a program coordinator with the national nonprofit Asians and Pacific Islanders with Disabilities of California (APIDC). I wanted to share that we are now accepting applications for our Youth Leadership Institute (YLI). This unique program is aimed at supporting undergraduate and graduate college students with disabilities (mental, physical or developmental) as they navigate their college journey and transition to the job market. We also accept applications from undergraduate and college students aiming to enter careers helping people with disabilities. Our team of workshop trainers come from a wide variety or professions and sectors including law, higher education, communications and marketing, corporations, banking, mental health, public service, and nonprofit management. YLI is specifically designed to provide intensive training to a cohort of 5 students from throughout the country on topics ranging from:

  • The history of civil rights, including the disability rights and Asian American rights movements
  • Self-advocacy: seeking accommodations on campus and in the employment context
  • Crafting your voice and message: tips on effective communications and public speaking
  • How to write an outstanding resume
  • Dos and don’ts for job interviews
  • Mindfulness: creating a self-care plan

The program is free for participants thanks to the generous support of the Bank of America, Southern California Edison, and The California Wellness Foundation and is offered via Zoom on the following Sundays (mandatory attendance for all sessions): April 6, 13, 27, and May 4.  Here is a link to the application: https://tinyurl.com/yli2025app. Additionally, attached is a digital copy of our flyer- please share it widely with student organizations and other departments on your campus.

The deadline for submission is Sunday March 16, 2025; early submission is highly encouraged as candidate interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
