The form 1098-T is intended to help students and families in determining if you are eligible for an Education Tax Credit. 1098-T statements are available after January 31 for the prior tax year.
Electronic 1098-T Statement Option: To continue to promote sustainability and our paperless processes, upon enrolling for classes, CSUN is offering all students an electronic 1098-T form option for IRS federal reporting of the Education Tax Credit benefits. By consenting to receive an electronic form you will be able to view, print, and save the form via the myCSUDH portal. You will not receive a paper form through the mail. Your consent will be on record until you withdraw your consent; at which time any future paper 1098-T form will be mailed to the address listed on the University’s record.
Students may access their Electronic Form 1098-T via their myCSUDH portal account any time after January 31 (estimated date).
The Tax Relief Act of 1997 states that educational institutions, such as California State University, Dominguez Hills, are required to file informational returns with the IRS indicating a student's enrollment, and report either amounts billed, or payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses.
There are several reasons why a 1098-T form may not have been required to be generated or why you did not received the form:
If California State University, Dominguez Hills was required to produce a form for you, it will be mailed out by January 31st. The fastest way to receive 1098-T information is for students to log onto your student center after January 31st in the portal and access it electronically.

Not necessarily. Determination of eligibility is the responsibility of the taxpayer. The University is required to file Form 1098-T with the IRS and to mail a copy to each student who was billed for qualified tuition and related expenses.
It’s important to note the school cannot provide individual income tax advice. If you have any 1098-T tax-related questions regarding the tax credit, eligibility, reporting your tax credit on your tax return, etc, please contact a tax professional or the IRS.
You or your parents may be eligible for the educational tax credits on your tax return. The Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997 created two educational tax credits for students and families, the American Opportunity Credit and the Lifetime Learning Tax Credit.
