Course Description:

This course aims at enhancing the experience of first-year students by developing research and critical thinking skills to ensure their academic success and enables them to take an active role as citizens. To achieve these goals, the course focuses on topics such as colonialism, Orientalism, and neoliberalism, to build up students’ basic academic skills and analytical toolbox through specific exercises meant to develop competency in analytical essay writing, scholarly formatting and referencing, information literacy, annotated bibliography, and oral presentation. Co-curricular activities will include projects designed to help students familiarize themselves with academic/career planning on the one hand, and discussions that allow them to explore the meaning of lifelong learning on the other.
