This course introduces first year students to possibilities and perspectives of struggle as an entry point to practical organizing and activism. In it, we seek to understand “liberation,” in the classroom, theoretically, historically and internationally. We study a broad range of liberation struggles from the past and present so as to clarify and evaluate struggles here and now. Students engage with campus affinity centers and participate in organizing speakers on campus, as well as making decisions and taking responsibility for certain aspects of class structure and assignments.
