Which student population does the program serve?

Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of post-secondary education. 

What are the eligibility requirements?

You are eligible to apply to the Upward Bound Program if you: 

  • come from a low-income family as determined by the U.S. Department of Education income level table 
  • are enrolled in one of our target schools (Jefferson, Carson, Gardena, Leuzinger, or Hawthorne High School) 
  • are a potential first-generation college student (neither parent or guardian has earned a bachelor's degree) 
  • are motivated and interested in attending college 
  • are a US citizen or permanent resident with a valid social security card 
How can you apply?

To apply to the Upward Bound Program, just follow the simple steps below: 

  • Step 1: Complete the Intake Form to learn more
  • Step 2: Complete the Upward Bound Application if you are ready to apply
  • Step 3: Gather your supporting documentsYou will need to gather the following documents to complete your application:
    • Copy of your Social Security Card 
    • The previous year Income Tax form when applying to the program to verify your parent’s Taxable Income
What documents are needed?
  • UB will need to verify your Social Security Card, to match the number and name of student applying to the program 
  • UB will need to verify the parent/ guardian Income Tax forms 
  • The most current High School Transcript is required with the UB application
