Esports continues to grow in popularity among K-12 students, and can be utilized as a conduit to academic learning. Research shows that participation in school activities can improve the students’ overall social, emotional, and academic performance. Developing an esports program in your school can improve engagement throughout subject areas such as math, reading, writing and computer science. Thus, active student participation in esports can lead to higher motivational and positive attitudinal changes in their academic efforts.
The school's culture can be enhanced through the interactivity of esports along with potential learning connections with career technical options. The esports certificate program can encourage collaboration among teacher leaders, school technologists, and administrators on how to incorporate an esports association in their school site as a supplemental motivational tool for existing program.
The esports online certificate will provide an in-depth examination of the esports industry
as well as enhanced connections to teaching and learning environments for academic
disciplines. Included in the program are the numerous esports resources and potential
mentoring after the esports certificate program completion. Esports will integrate collegiate educators in a coordinated effort towards developing an environment conducive to active learning. Using the collaborative modality of learning can connect students and educators closer together in a rigorous academic environment by promoting student engagement and motivation in the learning process.

The Introduction to eSports Certificate Program is presented in partnership between the College of Education and the College of Extended & International Education.
To receive the Certificate of Completion, candidates must successfully complete the four modules in the course. The certificate program will provide two Continuing Education Units (CEUs). A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of the required course. A digital badge is also provided.
All classes are offered online using Blackboard and Zoom.
