Withdrawal from HUX Courses

CSU policy for dropping a course or withdrawing from the term during weeks 4-11 requires that the student briefly explain a serious and compelling reason for withdrawing  and obtain approvals from instructor(s), chair and administrators. CSUDH College of Continuing and Professional Education policies can be found at https://www.csudh.edu/ccpe/registration/policies/.

The California State University has regulations relating to dropping and withdrawing from academic classes and for refunding course fees. A student must adhere to the process when dropping or withdrawing a course to make sure that a drop or a withdrawal has been completed and that, where appropriate, a “W” is assigned. “W” is not calculated in a student’s grade point average (GPA).” Any student who does not officially drop or withdraw from a course may receive a grade of “WU.” It is important to avoid receiving a final grade of “WU,” which is calculated as an “F” in a student’s grade point average. An approved drop after the 4th week and before the course concludes appears on the student’s record as a “W.”

Drop (Official Withdrawal from a Course)

Weeks 1 through 4: Between the start of classes and the end of the add/drop period of each semester, a student may withdraw online at MyCSUDH or can file a Change of Program card [PDF]. No instructor approval is required. No grade is assigned and the enrollment does not appear on the student's record.

Weeks 5 through 12: A student may be eligible to withdraw from a course up to the end of week 12. They must submit a Petition for Exception form [PDF], a Change of Program Form [PDF] and evidence of a serious and compelling reason. An administrative grade of "W" may be assigned. The Change of Program Form must include signatures from the instructor and department chair or dean. The Petition for Exception requires signatures from the instructor, department chair and dean.

Weeks 13 through 15: A student may be eligible to withdraw from a course during weeks 13 to 15. They must submit a Petition for Exception form [PDF], a Change of Program Form [PDF] and evidence of a serious accident or illness. Medical verification is required. An administrative grade of "W" may be assigned. The Change of Program Form must include signatures from the instructor and department chair or dean. Ordinarily, withdrawals in this category involve total withdrawal from the University.

Send or take the withdrawal materials to the College of Continuing and Professional Education  Registration office. Chair’s and/or dean’s signature will be obtained by the College of Continuing and Professional Education Registration. The reason for the request will be reviewed by the program coordinator and the Dean of the College of Continuing and Professional Education, and the Director of Student Information Services.

This process has been taken out of the HUX program office altogether. Be sure to keep tabs on this process because if it is not completed and the student is not assigned a grade of “W” at the end of the term the student will be assigned a “WU” or a grade of “F.” Remember that this is the student’s grade and therefore the student’s responsibility.

WITHDRAWAL FROM COURSES IS NOT GUARANTEED.
