6th Annual Labor, Social & Environmental Justice Fair Continues to “Organize for Justice” at CSU Dominguez Hills

Students Organizers Ask Labor and Community Partners to Celebrate Grassroots Organizing with Them on Thursday, April 24th.

(Carson, CA) – Students, Faculty, Labor and Community organizations from across the greater Los Angeles area come together to celebrate the Sixth Annual Labor, Social and Environmental Justice Fair hosted by California State University Dominguez Hills on Thursday, April 24th, 2014. The fair – with the theme, “Organize for Justice”– aims to highlight the organizing drives of the Social Justice Movement. From immigration reform to workers’ rights to economic and environmental conscience policies, people are uniting locally to create real social change. Neidi Dominguez is the keynote speaker and Boots Riley is the headliner performer at the event. Jim Lafferty will also speak at the fair.

“The organizations and speakers who come to the fair propose hopeful solutions for the future as people face increasing poverty and environmental degradation,” said Vivian Price, Ph.D., Labor Studies Program coordinator and advisor for the fair, which is organized by students. The daylong fair is designed to connect students and members of the community with local unions and community organizations that are doing social justice work, while enjoying art, music, dance and theater. It is open to the public, with free entry, free food (while supplies last), and parking is only $5 for those without permits.

There will also be an evening event, 5:30 to 8PM, in the fifth floor of the University Library, South Wing. Award winning author, Lauren Coodley will be speaking about her new book on Upton Sinclair, California Socialist, Celebrity Intellectual, in conjunction with the recent acquisition the John Ahouse/Upton Sinclair Collection in the Archives and Special Collections Department in the University Library. An exhibition of the collection will open in mid-April in the Archives. Excerpts from a rare copy of The Jungle will be screened. Refreshments will be served.
